The Disaster Response Team (DRT) of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association is regularly called upon by state, county and city emergency preparedness planners as well as area hospital planners who are seeking expert advice in developing their respective mass fatality plans.  The DRT can be activated in whole or in part and stands ready to respond to emergencies and mass fatality incidents, provide training and certification, and participate in drills. The DRT also responds to surrounding mutual aid states as requested. Here’s some of the DRT’s activities:

•    November 2010 ~ MSFDA provides mass fatality training for statewide emergency preparedness planners in conjunction with the Maryland State Department of Health 
•    April 2010 ~ Triage Drill – Maryland Defense Force’s 10th Medical Regiment at Towson State University
•    April 2009 ~ Triage Drill – Maryland Defense Force’s 10th Medical Regiment at Towson State University
•    May 20, 2008 through current day ~ Provided assistance in coordinating, planning and developing Maryland’s Mass Fatality Plan in conjunction with Maryland State Department of Health, the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), the Office of the Medical Examiner (OCME), the Anatomical Board of Maryland, the University of Maryland Health System, and other local hospital representatives.
•    January 20, 2008 ~ Team placed on “STAND BY ALERT” by DMORT for inaugural events in Baltimore & Washington DC
•   September 2008 ~ Partnership with Maryland Professional Volunteer Corps
•   May 10, 2008 ~ Emergency Plan Exercise (EPLEX) Drill at BWI Airport with the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). Scanner training with the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Tag. To learn more about MIEMSS, visit http://www.miemss.org.
•    April 18, 2008 ~ Triage Drill – Maryland Defense Force’s 10th Medical Regiment at Towson State University
•    March 2007 ~ Another 50 are trained/certified as Mass Fatality Responders 
•   September 2005 ~ Hurricane Katrina, a Task Force sent to Gulf Port, Mississippi
•   April 2005 ~ Aircraft Crash Drill at Multi-Jurisdictional BWI Airport
•   October 2004 ~ Multi-Jurisdictional Drill in Cumberland Maryland held by Allegany County’s Civil Defense and Emergency Management Agency.
•   September 2004 ~ Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner “Large Scale Call-Down” Drill - Washington D.C.
•   July 2004 ~ Full Scale Multi-Jurisdictional Drill - Ocean City, Maryland
•   April 2004 ~ Tabletop Drill conducted with multiple incidents throughout Maryland
•   March 2004 ~ DRT On Alert Status – Tour boat incident in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor
•   February 2004 ~ Offshore Tanker Explosion – Task Force Responders sent to Ocean City, Maryland
•   October 2003 ~ Hurricane Isabel – Task Force sent to Maryland’s Eastern Shore to provide relief services
•   September 2003 ~ 24 Funeral Directors trained and certified as Mass Fatality Responders
