Karen Truant is Executive Director for the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association (MSFDA) representing funeral directors and funeral homes throughout the state.Since joining the association in 2003, Ms. Truant has successfully managed the daily operations of this member organization for growth and productivity.She has been instrumental in identifying ways to attract new members and retain current members, introducing opportunities to increase revenues while decreasing costs, and developing and streamlining processes for maximum efficiency while maintaining a seamless transition of those functions.
Prior to joining MSFDA, Ms. Truant held both senior level administrative and managerial positions such as marketing manager for PHH Corporation where she successfully developed incentive and relationship management programs and events to cross-market the company’s products and services among its three business segments of vehicle management leasing, relocation and real estate, and mortgage banking services.
Following PHH’s acquisition by Cendant and relocation of the corporate entity to New Jersey, Ms. Truant joined RewardsPlus, a benefit technology company. As Public Relations Manager for RewardsPlus, Ms. Truant authored several by-lined articles published in human resources trade magazines and industry journals.Two of these articles included Online Enrollment Benefits published in Benefits & Compensation Solutions and Turning to the Internet to Deliver Benefits published in HR Today.She also was a contributing author on behalf of the then CEO of RewardsPlus and wrote a section in Prudential Financial’s book, Linking Employee Evolution to the HR Revolution.
A person committed to community involvement, Ms. Truant volunteered her skills and services to the Greater Baltimore Medical Center where she developed web pages for the Volunteer Services Department to inform, engage, educate and attract prospective volunteers to the hospital. Additionally, she created a quarterly compliance program for hospital volunteers to remain up to date on annual compliancy requirements as mandated by the healthcare’s regulatory agency.
Ms. Truant’s contributions have created a path of continuous improvement for the organizations she has been a part of in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.In turn, these contributions have led to greater responsibility and advancement throughout her career.
Ms. Truant holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.
